Troopers were called to the Woodybrook neighborhood in Cortlandt on Tuesday, Dec. 4, where there was a report of a man claiming to be a police officer, demanding money.
The investigation into the suspicious man determined that Croton-on-Hudson resident Marcelo Abila, wearing an “NYPD” baseball hat, knocked on the victim’s door claiming to be a member of the Croton Police Department. Abila then demanded money from the victim, who refused and notified State Police.
Abila, 41, was arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer and attempted grand larceny, both larcenies. Abila was remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Cortlandt Court on Thursday, Dec. 6.
